The BasisMixer

The examples below are provided to illustrate the predictions of the BasisMixer system for analysing and predicting loudness (in this context: MIDI velocity) in expressive music performance. In each of the examples, there are two versions. In the first version, the loudness of each note is set according to the predictions of the BasisMixer. In the second version the loudness of all notes is equal.

Apart from loudness variations, the notes are played literally as notated in the score, without any tempo changes, articulation, or pedaling. The examples are generated as MIDI, and sonified using a sampled piano.
